ADLN Newsletter - October 2002

Greetings from the ADLN Board! We hope that you are blessed and under God's care. We would like to update you on a few happenings from ADLN:

In May 2002 the final work was done on the school playground and swimming pool. Thanks to an ADLN donor that made this work possible!

The classrooms for the ADLN School have been air-conditioned with an air-cooler. This will enable learning in the hot afternoons of the Mexican Spring and Summer.

The October mission trip has been postponed. The next Medical Mission trip will be in March 2003. For more information on the March 2003 trip, please contact Lynn Cook.

Don't forget to remember ADLN in your end-of-the-year giving. Your money is making the difference in 75 children in Mexico.

ADLN - MAKING A DIFFERNCE IN THE LIVES OF THE MEXICAN CHILDREN

The ADLN school leadership estimates that about 50% of the children that attend the ADLN School come from divorced parents. The social crisis that is hitting Mexico through divorce is affecting the lives of many children. Meet Karla. Karla is five years old and attends the ADLN School. Karla lives with her grandmother because her mother must work to support the family. Karla has had several brothers and sisters who successfully attended ADLN and have moved into the elementary public school. Please view the photos on this page that will better introduce you to Karla.

Amigos de los Niños Community of Care

The Mexican culture is under intense pressure to change. The economy of the country is growing but the local economy of Frontera (where the school is located) has been struggling for many years due to the closing of several major steel producers. Many of the men in the area have joined the millions of hard-working immigrants to the United States. One of the many ministries of the ADLN School is to provide care for the children of families that have a parent in the US for a job. Money is sent back to Mexico to support the family. The ADLN School has several children in this situation. The pictures at the right feature Paula and her mother. Paula's father is in the US working. Paula and her mother live alone in Frontera, except for the holidays when her father returns for a visit. Paula is a star student at the ADLN School and her mother is very involved in the monthly mothers' meeting and devotional. Paula's mom also regularly volunteers at the school.
